The Crouched Friars is a luxurious home for the elderly. Set in beautiful gardens, this sympathetically restored Part Grade 2 listed building has a dream location in the heart of Colchester tow n centre, Britain’s oldest recorded town. We are literally just a 1 minute stroll to the main shops in town.
We have a fully trained team of staff providing residential care, as well as short term respite breaks. Our mission every day is to make our residents comfortable and happy and for them to be as independent as possible.
Our home is run by a caring professional team of staff, who provide support, care and companionship to each individual. There is a lovely atmosphere at the Crouched Friars, and always plenty going on.

All the rooms at our home are en suite and fully furnished to a high standard. Residents are encouraged to make their room a true home from home by bringing in favourite furnishings. It is their home and we give residents the freedom and dignity to treat it as such.
We are set in ample and beautiful grounds, we have picturesque gardens, with ample hard-walking surfaces and seating areas for their benefit. Residents can relax outside on warm days in a very secure and scenic setting.
The home is specifically designed to cater for the elderly and their needs. The home is fully suitable for wheelchairs and there is also a lift to all floors, to allow residents of any mobility to live a free and comfortable life in their own home.
A great deal of effort has been made to prevent the home becoming an institution and making it a warm and friendly place to live and enjoy.
We always welcome and encourage personal visits to meet the residents, as this is the best way to experience the character and charm of our home. Visitors are always welcomed at The Crouched Friars.
