Description:

Beechwood House Rest Home

Beechwood House Rest Home is a large detached house situated in a residential area of Bournemouth. It was converted to a care home many years ago and is registered to accommodate a maximum of 13 older people. Ownership of the home has been taken over by the former Registered Manager, Mrs Metcalfe who has 20 years experience within this home. Accommodation is provided over two floors with eleven single rooms and one double room. Eleven of the rooms have en-suite facilities. The first floor is accessed by means of a staircase or a small passenger lift. There is a lounge and dining room on the ground floor. The house has a bus stop that is 250 yards away, a local GP is only 250 yards away (although encouraged to keep your own GP if possible) and we are situated 1 mile from the town centre and its sandy beaches.

The home provides home cooked food on a daily basis on the premises, but also every Friday we have Fish & Chips brought in and once a month a takeaway is ordered. Relatives and guests can be invited for lunch or dinner by arrangement.

Facilities

Beechwood House Rest Home is registered for 13 residents. Residents are encouraged to bring their own furniture and personal items. The aim is to make their rooms as personal as possible. However each room does contain the following:

  • A clean comfortable bed.
  • Bed linen.
  • Curtains.
  • Overhead / bedside lighting.
  • Comfortable seating.
  • Drawers and enclosed hanging space for clothes.

The home is fitted with a modern fire alarm system with smoke detectors. Staff are trained during their induction training on fire safety and periodically thereafter. All staff are given mandatory training within the first 6 weeks and we currently have 80% of our staff with NVQ training.

Visiting clergymen of any denomination are always welcome to visit with private consultations held in the resident’s own accommodation.

We have a visiting hair stylist that comes every 2 weeks and also a qualified chiropodist who comes every 6 weeks (If you have your own already you are welcome to keep using them).

Relatives, friends and visitors are welcome to the home at any time. A lunch can be provided on request. We also have a weekly activity sheet where residents are encouraged to join in, but this is optional.

Before admission a full pre-assessment is carried out by either Rose or another Senior staff member to ensure we can fulfill all care needs.

Care plans are reviewed monthly, by either the manager or senior staff with full consultation where possible with the resident or representative. Details of the review are fully documented and shared with all staff.

Residents are treated with respect, dignity and privacy. Beechwood House Rest Home operates a Confidentiality Policy, which aids the privacy of residents. Staff are fully trained in this aspect of care and will not intrude on the privacy of a resident unless they are invited to do so or in cases of emergency.
