Description:
Ashurst Place Rest Home
Ashurst Place Rest Home is a true home and the care we offer is friendly and personalised. We follow the highest professional standards, but it is the care we offer beyond the formal care plans that makes us so special.
Our care
All our elderly residents are cared for to the very highest standards. We carry out a thorough assessment of them and their needs before they move in with us, to make sure we are the right home for them and to develop a personalised care plan, agreed with them and their relatives. All care plans are reviewed regularly and in response to changing needs, with any changes agreed with residents and their relatives. Plus we take time to get to know our residents so we can deliver not only the care they need, but in the way they want, accommodating their personal preferences and interests.
Types of care
We offer long-term residential care (our longest resident has been with us for 35 years!), respite care and convalescent care.
Our staff
All staff have relevant qualifications, whether they fulfil caring or support roles, such as our cooks and housekeeping staff; some of our carers have achieved or are studying for advanced qualifications. We also offer regular training to refresh their skills and make sure we are following best practises throughout our operations. But the most important thing about our staff is their attitude: we look for individuals who are understanding, interested in people, able to chat, good natured and genuinely caring and compassionate.
Professional support
Our expert staff are supported as required by the professional expertise of local GPs, the district nurse, physiotherapists, a chiropodist, a dietician and an optician. We also escort people to external appointments at the doctor’s, dentist’s or to hospital.
Caring beyond the care plans
We treat our residents as individuals; we wouldn’t want to be told what to do and when, so if someone wants to stay in their room rather than sitting in the lounge, we respect that. And we take time to get to know them; when we have a few minutes, we don’t hide in the staff room, we sit with the residents and chat with them. It’s the real connections and relationships that we have with our residents that makes Ashurst Place Rest Home different.
Changing care needs
This is our residents’ home, so we do everything we can to save them the upheaval of having to move elsewhere. We discuss their changing needs with them and their relatives, and as long as we all believe that we can provide the very best care for them, we will, including compassionate and dignified palliative care.
Facilities
A Victorian mansion set in 23-acres of parkland, Ashurst Place Rest Home offers individual accommodation and facilities.
Bedrooms
The 30 bedrooms – including five double rooms for married couples – are all individual. Many of them have en-suite toilets and hand basins. Residents are encouraged to decorate them to their own tastes, including bringing their own furniture, bed linen and ornaments and hanging their own pictures on the walls. Telephone and internet lines are available for people who want to use them in their rooms.
Communal areas
The communal rooms at Ashurst Place Rest Home are spacious and welcoming. Residents can watch the television, sit and chat or read a book from our extended library which also offers large print and audio books in the wood paneled lounge or the airy conservatory. The light dining room has small tables so people can sit with their friends. The bathrooms and shower rooms include specially adapted equipment to make bathing easy.
Outside
Residents and their relatives can enjoy our beautiful parkland at any time. Many residents choose to sit outside during the summer, or enjoy a walk to talk to the horses in the fields and enjoy the local wildlife, including ducks, geese, deer, squirrels and wild birds. Although the Home has a no smoking policy indoors, we do have a covered area for smokers.
Nearby
The Langton Green village shops, including a pub, restaurant and hairdresser’s, are a short walk away, while the beautiful spa town of Royal Tunbridge Wells, with extensive shops and restaurants, theatres and cinemas, is just a five-minute drive.
