Description:

Birtley House Nursing Home

At Birtley House Nursing Home we are dedicated to providing the highest levels of personalised care, with an emphasis on care of the whole person, and a range of different accommodation options.

With over 85 years and four generations, dedicated to providing the highest levels of care, the family who own and manage Birtley House Nursing Home in Surrey feel a very personal involvement with the quality of life enjoyed by all Residents.

At Birtley House we have blended traditional values of courtesy and care with modern, professional nursing care methods to offer our residents a lifestyle which ensures that their personal preferences, independence, privacy and dignity are respected at all times.

Birtley has attained ‘Platinum’ level in the Gold Standards Frameworks (GSF) accreditation scheme – the highest level possible.

Birtley House has a dedicated team of Activities Coordinators who play a vital role in the care of our Residents. Members of the team are available seven days a week and each morning serve coffee to Residents individually, thus providing the opportunity to discuss any personal problems or requirements.

Monthly Activities Programme

The varied activities programme is changed each month with the aim to attract as many Residents as possible to join in with the structured activities and outings. Activities range from talks by guest speakers, musical afternoons, arts and crafts, cookery, word-games and quizzes, T’ai Chi and the celebration of anniversaries and dates of special interest and significance. Occasionally, Residents have given talks or demonstrations themselves, if they have had a particular interest or hobby which they wished to share with others.

Additional regular monthly activities

In addition to the formal daily programme, there are regular monthly activities including film shows, book club, visits from the Pets as Therapy (PAT) dog and cat and clubs which have been formed by some of the Residents including Bridge, Knitting, Rummicub and Scrabble.

Activities tailored to the individual

Additional ad-hoc activities are organised by the Care Assistants at any time throughout the 24hr day, to suit the requirements of the Resident. By their very nature, such activities do not follow a regular timetable and range widely in content e.g.

  • Watch a match on the TV with a fellow rugby enthusiast
  • Eat Fish & Chips at the local chippy
  • Go on an outing to watch a local airshow
  • Sit and chat in the grounds
  • A trip to the seaside
